School Challenge

An elementary school Nordic ski tournament will be hosted by Cross Country Yukon in cooperation with Cross Country Canada. The purpose is to introduce elementary school age children to cross country ski skills and racing with FUN as the main objective. This year the focus will be on bumps, jumps and thrills as we take advantage of the ski playground at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club! Register early! A maximum of 125 participants can take part in the School Challenge.

Friday February 29, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Postponed until March 26, 2008.

Where

Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club

Who

Grades 4-7 (who have skied before - no absolute beginners please)

Each school will be allowed a maximum of 40 students.

How

Kids will be divided into groups for morning stations and then schools will "compete" against each other for fun relays in the afternoon.

Cost

$2.00 per student

Skis

Students must have their own skis (a few rentals are available at the Ski Base Service Centre)

Lunch

Provided!

Prizes

All participants will go home with a gift from Cross Country Canada, along with ribbons and a chance for medals and trophies from Grey Mountain Lions Club.

Chaperones

Each school must bring 2 teachers (who ski) for groups over 20.

Yukon Ski Team members will be leaders.

How To Register

Step 1

Download and complete the School Challenge Reservation Form and fax it to (867) 393-3184 by Friday January 25, 2008 to reserve a spot for your school. Make sure you include a contact for your school.

Download and complete the Ski Challenge Registration Form and fax to (867) 393-3184 by Tuesday February 19, 2008.

Download and complete the Student Wavier Form for each student in your school that will be participating in the School Challenge. Bring the waivers with you to the School Challenge event.

Download and complete the Cross Country Canada Club/School Registration Form and make sure your principal signs this document as it is required for insurance purposes. Bring the Cross Country Canada Club/School Registration Form with you to the School Challenge event.

What You Must Remember To Bring

  • Student Waiver Forms for all students
  • $2 registration fee for each student (cash or cheque to Cross Country Yukon)
  • Cross Country Canada Club/School Registration Form signed by principal of school
  • All students and teachers must bring their own skis and warm clothes

Transportation

Schools are to arrange their own transportation to and from the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club.

Free Cross Country Ski Buff

Each participant in a Cross Country Canada sponsored Double Cross event will receive a free cross country ski buff (a cool tubular accessory worn as a headband, balaclava, scarf, hat...)
