Purple Squad
Purple Squad will have two head coaches and additional leaders (parent coaches) to assist at each session. The coaches plan to offer a skill-oriented program that will be fun, relaxed and social. The emphasis will be put on the team concept and social activities will be an important part of the program. They will encourage and introduce competition as one of the many activities in conjunction with training techniques, but the emphasis will be on skill development and the “FUNdamentals” (agility, balance and coordination)!
Parent coaches are needed and 3-4 will be scheduled for each session to assist the head coach(es). Parents need to be, or willing to become, certified.
Age Requirement and Fees
Purple Squad will consist of a group of skiers 10 and 11 years old (born 1996-1997). Fees for the season are $150 per child and each child must have a ski club membership. Maximum number of participants for this year will be 24 in each squad.
Sessions
Purple Squad will offer two weekly sessions beginning October 13th through till the end of March. The sessions will take place at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club at Mount. McIntyre Recreation Centre. The session times are 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The period from mid-October to November is dryland training (done on foot) while the rest of the season is done on skis. Dryland training will begin Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m.
Communication
Please note that all communication about Purple Squad is done via email. If you do not have access to email, please ensure that you are in regular contact with the coordinator or a participant who does. During the season, information is often provided within 24 hours of a practice. Please do check your email regularly.
Registration Information
To register after October 26th, please contact the Purple Squad Coordinator, Caroline Sparks at 456-4414 to see if there is space available.
If space is available, you must:
1. Fill out the Purple Squad Registration Form and attach a cheque for $150 payable to Cross Country Yukon. Payment must accompany registration to guarantee a spot.

2. Ensure that your child has a current 2007-2008 Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club membership. Fill out the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club Membership Form and make your payment to Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club.
NOTE: All registration forms must be dropped off at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club Office. Please do not use the Cross Country Yukon mail slot or Sport Yukon.
