Green Squad
Overview
Green Squad has one head coach, an assistant head coach and additional leaders (parent coaches) to help at each session. The coaches involved with the Green Squad plan to offer a skill-oriented program that will offer an opportunity to learn about training for cross country skiing. The emphasis will be put on "the team concept" and "social activities" will be an important part of the program. They will encourage competition as one of the many activities in conjunction with training techniques.
One to two parent coaches will be scheduled for each session to assist the head coach and assistant coach. Parents need to be, or willing to become, certified.
Age Requirement and Fees
The Green Squad will consist of a group of skiers 12 to 14 year olds (born 1995-1993). Fees for the season are $200 per child and each child must have a ski club membership.
Sessions
The Green Squad program will offer three weekly sessions beginning September 11th until the end of March. The sessions will take place at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club at Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre. The session times are 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursday and 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturdays. The period from mid-September to November is dryland training (on foot) while the rest of the season is on skis. Dryland training will begin Tuesday, September 11th at 4:30 pm.
